The Home Assist Secure Service is a State Government program administered in Queensland by the Department of Housing. This service aims to remove practical housing-related difficulties experienced by older people and people with a disability who wish to remain living in their home. The service provides free information and referrals about home maintenance, falls prevention, repairs, modifications and home security. Eligible people must be 60 years and over, or of any age with a disability, and live in their own home or in rental housing. Council Cabs is a door-to-door pre-booked service provided by Sunshine Coast Council and operated by Suncoast Cabs. To be eligible for the service, you must be over 60 or a person with a disability who can travel independently or with a carer. The service will take you to your nearest designated shopping centre once per week, on a specific day, for a fixed fare of $2 one-way per person. To book call 1300 139 433 by noon the day before your trip.
The Queensland Government provides financial assistance to low-income Queenslanders with a medical condition which requires the use of electricity for cooling or heating. This assistance is provided for a period of 2 years, at which time eligibility will require review. The concession is provided to assist individuals with the increased electricity costs incurred by frequent operation of an air-conditioning unit in order to regulate body temperature. The Companion Card program supports people with a disability to have the same opportunities for participation and recreation as other community members. It promotes fair ticketing for people with a disability who need the significant assistance of a companion to attend activities and venues in their communities. Residents receiving the Centrelink Carer Payment are eligible to receive the Carer Business Discount Card, which is an initiative of the Qld Government. The card is intended to provide direct, real benefits to eligible carers in acknowledgement of their valuable contribution to the community.The Carer Business Discount Card is accepted at thousands of business outlets throughout Queensland.

Do you have a pet? Would you like a little bit of help to take care of your beloved pet? This is a free service supporting people with a disability or the aged to care for their pet with the help of a volunteer. The volunteer’s role may include assistance taking your dog for a walk, lending a hand with grooming, or cleaning out the kitty litter tray or bird cage. A secondary aim of the project is to prevent animals being surrendered to animal shelters by citizens due to difficulties in caring for them at home.
